2022 Outlook: The State of Franchising in the Beauty Salon Sector

There’s no doubt the pandemic left many businesses in a difficult place. But with the majority of restrictions behind us, beauty salon franchises are looking to make 2022 an excellent year.

Beauty salons were booming prior to 2020. The sector had been enjoying year-on-year growth for a number of years [Statista], and while there’s no surprise this face-to-face industry wasn’t able to forge ahead during the restrictions, this previous success has set an ambitious threshold to aim for once again. 

While there’s no doubt that a full recovery will require all the hard work, talent and effort of many different franchisees, this is a sector that is always in demand and always looking to bounce back. 

The appetite for hairdressers and beauty salons in the UK is growing strong. By 2019, the number of enterprises for hairdressing and related beauty treatments reached an all-time high in the past 12 years.

The future of the beauty salon industry 

As with many other sectors, the beauty industry had to adapt to survive. With in-person stores closed, new ways of working such as van-based and other remote forms of franchising have come into their own. While some beauty businesses took their franchises on the road, others resorted to running subscription services that helped customers keep themselves looking and feeling great from the comfort of their own home.
