The history of Love Brownies

Founded in 2009, founders Lee and Chantal Teal were on a mission to create the ultimate brownie - and to make people smile. Both of these goals have no doubt been achieved and then some, after more than a decade of selling to thousands of beaming customers. Love Brownies now has a brimming trophy cabinet, with its Double Chocolate offering boasting three gold stars in the prestigious Great Taste Awards - the only brownie to do so.

The aim was to create the nation’s best chocolate brownie, which was achieved, confirmed by a list of prestigious awards. Our Double Chocolate is still the only brownie ever to be awarded the top honours of three gold stars in the Great Taste Awards.

From its modest beginnings as a home store in Yorkshire, Lee and Chantal now have a great team around them to bring out the best of the business and facilitate the constant expansion of Love Brownies. From the taste of their delicious brownies to the way the team and franchisees engage with customers, the Love Brownies founders are keen to make it clear that the business is not a café or a shop, but an experience.

Start your career in the dessert sector with Love Brownies

The Love Brownies brand has continued to thrive, with its hand-made dessert treats keeping customers smiling and the business growing. And with multiple franchisee offerings, from cafés to grab-a-bite premises - and even van-based franchises - there’s something to suit every franchisee with Love Brownies. If you’re keen to compete with the other top dessert franchises in the baked goods sector, some key questions you might have are answered below.

1. How do you go about starting your own dessert business with Love Brownies?

You can get in touch with Love Brownies via their website, after which they’ll look to set up a telephone conversation with you. After this, you’ll chat to one of their franchise consultants, and if all goes well you’ll be sat in front of their onboarding team quicker than you can say ‘double chocolate’.

And what type of person are Love Brownies looking for? While anyone can be a franchisee with this desserts business, it certainly helps if you can hit the following criteria:

  • Well-aligned values
  • Self-motivation
  • Ambition
  • Determination
  • Communication skills
  • People skills
  • Business acumen
  • Leadership skills
  • The ability to manage and develop a successful team

2. How much do you need to invest to become a franchisee?

In order to become a Love Brownies franchisee, you’ll need to make a minimum initial investment of around £25,000. However, there are a wide range of additional fees depending on what you want your Love Brownies set up to look like. For a full café shop build, you’ll be looking at costs of around £120,000; for a grab-and-go premises, the cost will be approximately £70,000; and for a mobile unit, the cost is likely to be around £30,000.

For a better idea of where these costs sit in the wider desserts industry, below are some examples of other franchise costs:

  • Baskin Robbins - to franchise with this renowned ice-cream business, you’ll need to make a minimum investment of £500,000.
  • Chock Shop - to franchise with this marketplace brownie business, you’ll be required to make a minimum investment of £10,000, with a total investment of £15,000.
  • Crêpeaffaire - franchising with this crêpe company will need a minimum investment of £60,000, with a total investment of £120,000.

If you’re making this exciting career change and becoming a Love Brownies franchisee, you can expect all sorts of training and support.
