The American doughnut chain picked Blanchardstown Centre in Dublin to house its first eatery in Ireland. It took a whole year of estate agents scouting around the clock to find the perfect landing place for Krispy Kreme’s Ireland location and it has already become a legend among the locals. Krispy Kreme has been around since the 1930’s and with headquarters in North Carolina, the deliciously crafted doughnuts with coffee joint went private last year in a deal that positioned a $1.35bn equity valuation on the business.
JAB Holding, an investment firm owned by the Reimann family acquired Krispy Kreme after selling its 68pc stake in luxury shoe brand Jimmy Choo in order to put all its energies into its coffee operations. JAB has become the world’s largest pure-play coffee company, owning the UK Krispy Kreme operation alongside a joint venture with European coffee manufacturer, Jacobs Douwe Egberts.
With 1,200 stores around the globe, Krispy Kreme has two-thirds outside the US and over 90 outlets in the UK alone.
Krispy Kreme operation in the UK announced a pre-tax profit of #10.3m in the first 11 months of this year, on revenue of £66.6m.
