The company's history dates back to 1864 as a humble tailor under the name of Joseph Hepworth & Son situated in Leeds, owned by Joseph Hepsworth and James Rodes. Their partnership ended in 1872, and Hepsworth decided to continue the company's expanison. By 1884 he had around 100 outlets spread around UK. From there, the company continued to purchase well-known brands such as Kendall & Sons, Lipsy and Saville Row designer Hardy Amies. In 1988, Next decided to add jewellery to the collection which traded under the Salisbury and Zales brand.
