David Wright launched his Really Awesome Coffee van back in April 2021, and he recently sat down with the popular mobile coffee chain to discuss his journey to the franchise, and his journey with the franchise so far.
David found the coffee van franchise in the spring. Prior to this, he said, “I was a Sales Director for a medium sized facility management company looking after cleaning contracts”. When he discovered Really Awesome Coffee’s unique opportunity in the coffee space, David decided to embark on a career change after a period of stagnation.
He explained that he “had been on furlough for over 12 months and, following a candid conversation with the MD, ascertained [he] would not be returning any time soon”. He looked at a few different franchise investment options, including Cafe2U and Coffee Blue, but “thought Really Awesome Coffee was ahead of the game”, and knowing “coffee was a great commodity to get into”, went for it.
David expressed during his conversation with the franchise that he felt his training had been “very good”, “relaxed” and “welcoming”. The barista training in particular was extremely thorough, and David enjoyed “learning how to make a variety of coffees, smoothies and milkshakes” - knowledge he’s now regularly putting into use. Plus, David said, “Contact with my Franchise Development Manager (FDM) and Head Office is excellent. Always there when you need them. I have regular support visits from my FDM which is very good”.
Finally, David was asked to offer one piece of advice to someone looking to become a franchisee, and he said this: “Expect it to be initially harder work than you first think, more often than not working 7 days a week to build your round. However, once settled, I can't think of a better business”.
