Auditel has been sharing one of its young franchisee’s experience of balancing fatherhood and running his own business.

Auditel franchisee Stephen Sowerby has been encouraging other young business people into franchising by sharing his own positive experience of getting his work/life balance right.

After starting his career well as a qualified accountant in a ‘Big Four’ accountancy firm, Sowerby quickly grew tired of his daily commute into London’s financial City district. Despite having a well-paid and seemingly ‘good’ job, after five years the daily grind became too much for him. So, deciding he was young enough to take a bit of a risk, he decided to look for a different opportunity that would afford him a better work/life balance.

That’s when Sowerby discovered Auditel. By setting up his own branch of the business management franchise, which helps companies reduce costs and improve how their business is run, he was able to take on a new challenge that allowed him to be his own boss.

“As soon as I had made my decision to join Auditel, it wasn’t difficult to make the move,” admitted Sowerby, adding that the extensive training and support provided by the franchise made the transition to self-employment much easier than he’d imagined.

After staring a family with his wife earlier this year, Sowerby added that the flexibility and freedom of being his own boss has allowed him to be around for more precious moments with his new daughter.

“Having the freedom and time to enjoy these early stages of her life has been exactly why I wanted to avoid commuting into the City. I’ve worked hard to reach this point by following the Auditel model. Having the ongoing support of both Head Office, and the network, has been exactly what I needed to help me be at this point of my life.”

Now, with plenty of time for his family and life outside of work, Sowerby says that he has the luxury of “scheduling work around my life, rather than organising my life around work.”

Founded in 1994, Auditel now has more than 160 franchisees across the UK and has won multiple awards for its successful business model.
