Budgens is a community retailer based in the UK which currently have 150 stores, ranging from petrol forecourts and supermarkets; all of which are owned by our independent Budgens retailers. Every store are owned by entrepreneurs who wish to provide their community with high quality food. These entrepreneurial business men and women support local events and charities and try to source food from local suppliers. With more than 6000 staff ready to assist, no wonder we serve over 80 million happy customers per year.

We offer an extensive range of top quality products tailored fit to specific stores. We have more than 2000 fresh products including fresh meat and fish, artisan bread and specialist seasonal and exclusive products. Our bakery section, produce range, fresh meat range and the suppliers we feature in our stores are recognised and commended especially our very own award-winning butchery centre of excellence and products from our brands ‘Farm Fresh’ and ‘Happy Shopper’.

Once an established Budgens franchise, we will continue to work closely with you and you will enjoy many benefits. Once your business is up and running, membership or franchise fees will not be charged, retailers will buy 80% of their stock from us, we will deliver up to 6 days every week, we have promotional programme which includes 4 consumer leaflets and point of sale each week and finally, we will provide you our approved IT systems.

We offer our franchisees a high level of support and you will learn about the business and the trade as you develop and grow your business. There will be a New Store Opening Manager who will assist in store opening and help you with staff training and recruitment.

To become a Budgens franchise owner, a background in retailing is an advantage, especially within similar industry, but not necessarily required, although you will need to be commercially minded, dedicated and have a passion for quality food. The amount needed will depend on your preference but a minimum of £20,000 is required if just reacquiring and up to £250,000 for a new one.

You will be required to search for your own property and we have a list of requirements. One of which is to have 2,000-10,000 sq ft sales area, leasehold or freehold, 5000 population within 5 minute drive. It is really important to have a sufficient parking space and should be accessible to the public. A site visit from us is needed to check if the area of your choice will be fit for a Budgens store.

Budgens was established in 1872 by John Budgen, and is considered one of the oldest supermarkets which still very well known until today. The company has been a proud community retailer for over 125 years and became part of the Booker Group in 2015 with our passion for delivering food in the highest of standards to local communities remain as strong as ever, scattered through 25 countries, with more than 227 stores open.
