Signs Express combats loneliness

Signs Express franchisee Richard Howes has donated signs to his local community that aim to make it easier for people to chat and connect.

As we become ever more connected online, lots of us report feeling lonely in the real world. In addition, many people struggle to find ways to connect to others or pluck up the courage to start a conversation. One Signs Express franchisee is helping the people of Sleaford overcome loneliness though, thanks to his generously donated signs.

After spotting Janey Rowlands’ Facebook campaign, which was looking to set up social benches across the town, Richard Howes got in touch. He offered to create two special signs for the benches free of charge to help Janey’s campaign get off the ground.

Now, the signs have been installed on two council-owned benches in the town centre, which read ‘Happy to Chat, take a seat if you don’t mind someone stopping to say ‘hello’’.

Speaking about why the Signs Express-enabled campaign is so important, Janey explained:

“It is a British thing that people sometimes don’t even know whether to say ‘hello’. It is not just older people. It is good for mums who haven’t got their family around and are otherwise stuck at home all day off work with the baby.”

She was inspired to set up the benches after reading a story about another woman in Wales who did the same thing. With Richard’s donated signs in place, it’s hoped that the people of Sleaford will soon be making new connections all across the town.
