John Keelan-Edwards, MD at Driver Hire Training, underlines why the campaign remains so important. “Every day of the year four people set off on what is probably a routine journey, never to return. It’s an immeasurable tragedy for their family, colleagues, and friends,” he says.
He notes that this amounts to around 1,600 deaths and 30,000 serious injuries each year, figures that have “remained stubbornly high for more than a decade.”
Driver Hire franchisees have a direct stake in road safety. As Keelan-Edwards explains, “As one of the leading suppliers of temporary drivers to the road transport and logistics industry, Driver Hire franchisees have around 2,500 drivers out on the road every day. Clearly, they want to ensure their safety and the safety of all other road-users, especially the more vulnerable – pedestrians, cyclists, horse riders and motorcyclists.”
The 16 to 22 November campaign focuses this year on the theme “Safe vehicles save lives”, highlighting the crucial role of vehicle checks and safety technology in preventing collisions. Driver Hire Training supports this effort by providing courses that help drivers and employers maintain high safety standards.
By directing clients and drivers onto Driver Hire Training courses, Driver Hire franchisees are helping to ensure that every journey is as safe as possible, because safe vehicles and safe drivers save lives, Keelan-Edwards concludes.
