Wiltshire Farm Foods attended an event in Somerset that aimed to offer free information and resources to elderly members of the community.

While most of us have respect for the older generations in our communities, an event attended by Wiltshire Farm Foods highlighted how we also need to help the elderly people around us. ‘Celebrating Older Person’s Day’ was held on October 4th at Burnham Community Centre, Burnham-on-Sea, to offer free resources and information to the elderly people of the seaside town.

Hosted by Burnham-on-Sea police, the free event was attended by local businesses, including food and beverage franchise Wiltshire Farm Foods, to highlight what’s available to people in the area. A spokeswoman for the police said:

“A variety of different stallholders came along, including a driving simulator from Somerset Road Safety, plus Lifeline, Village Agents, SCLT, Compass Disability, Red Cross, fire service, Alzheimer’s Society, IAMRS, Somerset care, Wiltshire Farm Foods, Somerset Sight and Somerset Independence.”

The event was held to celebrate the UN’s Older Persons Day, which highlights the incredible impact the oldest individuals on the planet have had on the world and encourages us to support older individuals in our communities. A spokesperson for the UN explained:

“While they have made incredible contributions, our older people are now highly vulnerable, with many falling into poverty, becoming disabled or facing discrimination. As health care improves, the population of older people is growing. Their needs are also growing, as are their contributions to the world. The International Day of Older Persons is an opportunity to highlight the important contributions that older people make to society and raise awareness of the opportunities and challenges of ageing in today’s world.”

Wiltshire Farm Foods offers quality ready-made meals to people across the UK and now has a network of more than 75 franchisees across the country.
