A local Water Babies group has been sending messages to the lonely elderly people in their community to raise their spirits.

One Water Babies franchisee has been trying to tackle the issue of elderly loneliness in her community by involving her students in a heart-warming project.

Tamsin Brewis, who is the franchisee for Water Babies Bucks and Beds, decided to honour the unofficial holiday of Send a Card to a Friend Day by getting her students to send cheerful cards to residents of a local care home.

Marisa Ramos, customer relations manager at Highmarket House care home, explained why the gesture meant so much to her residents.

Whilst most of our residents have family nearby, who visit regularly, the same cant be said for all. Its really sad to see and, although we make a real effort to help them feel engaged and included, theres nothing quite like receiving a lovely card or letter in the post. We are so pleased that Water Babies got in touch, to see if wed like to hand out some of the nice cards their little swimmers made, we were pleased to pass them out to our well-deserving residents. It was wonderful to see everyone enjoying the colourful cards and friendly words, the smiles were infectious.

Tamsin explained what motivated her to get her students involved.

Were all about giving back to the community and so were constantly looking for ways in which we can lend a hand. Id like to say a big thank you to all of the parents who made this collection such a success. Were delighted that Highmarket House were happy to partner with us on this campaign and long may this budding friendship last.

Since Water Babies was founded in 2002, the kids & children's franchise has taught thousands of youngsters the life-saving skill of swimming.
