The new menu at Papa John’s creates a buzz

Papa John’s has got everybody talking with its brand-new menu addition and the world’s first pizza ever made for bees.

Papa John’s has announced that the newest addition to its menu will be a sweet and spicy creation named ‘The Bee Sting’. The innovative new pizza flavour will feature a fiery base of Amarillo chilli, with pepperoni, mozzarella and fresh chilli layers on top. However, the twist comes from a drizzle of sweet wildflower honey, which will balance out the heat and add a sweet hint to the unique pizza.

To celebrate the launch, the pizza franchise has teamed up with chef Thom Whitchurch to create the world’s first ‘Beezza’. The one-inch creation was made from real Papa John’s dough and its signature passata base but was topped with a range of wildflowers including Forget Me Nots, Rose Geraniums and a mixture of attractive local pollen.

It was designed to raise awareness of the important role bees play in the production of tomatoes, which are an essential part of one of the nation’s favourite takeaway treats. Alongside the fun ‘Beeza’, which sadly isn’t available to buy, Papa John’s will be handing out wildflower seeds via its social media accounts to encourage its fans and customers to make their gardens a more bee-friendly place. The pizza franchise is also switching its charity partner for the summer to the Bumblebee Conservation Trust to raise money for the worthy cause.

Speaking about the fun but serious campaign, UK Marketing Director Giles Codd said:

“Bees are fundamental to the making of pizzas, so we wanted to give them a slice of the action and create one perfect for them whilst raising awareness of the well-publicised issue of declining bee populations both here in the UK and across the globe. We hope the new Bee Sting pizza, goes down as well with our customers as the ‘Beezza’ did with the bees.”
