Really Awesome Coffee Norwich is working tirelessly to keep hard-working ambulance teams fed and caffeinated
It’s a tough time for everyone right now, but especially the country’s NHS workers putting in gruelling shifts on the frontline. Many are so busy treating patients that they struggle to find time to even grab a drink or snack. That’s why Andy Baxter, who runs Really Awesome Coffee in Norwich, has been dedicating his time to the team at East of England Ambulance Service.
Baxter has been visiting the ambulance depot three times a day, seven days a week since the lockdown restrictions came into force at the end of March. As many local businesses have had to close, Baxter is making sure the team can stay fuelled between callouts without the usual abundance of cafés, shops and takeaways to choose from. As part of the coffee van franchise, Baxter offers barista-quality coffee and tasty snacks from his fully-refrigerated van.
His efforts have earned him the Hidden Gem Award from East of England Ambulance Service, which was given to him as a thanks for his constant visits. The title is usually reserved for those inside the NHS that have gone above and beyond, and Baxter said the touching gesture was “really special” and a highlight of his six years as a franchisee. He added:
“It really made my day, I wasn’t expecting anything. They do 12-hour shifts which is a long time not to be able to get a decent cup of coffee or something to eat.”
The smart businessman has also begun offering home delivery across the local area so that people can get their hands on a quality cup of coffee. It’s also kept his operations going, even when many of his usual customers in places like office blocks aren’t around.
