Two Really Awesome Coffee franchisees based in Lanarkshire have been able to launch a three-van business in the space of just 12 months. 

When John and Maria first visited the Really Awesome Coffee stall at the National Franchise Exhibition this time last year, they had no idea a national lockdown was just months away. By the time they’d opened their coffee van franchise unit in February, they had six weeks before many UK businesses were forced to close their doors. 

Taking advantage of the franchise’s ‘mobile’ model, John and Maria decided to start promoting home deliveries alongside their usual visits to key-worker businesses. They found high demand for the services they were able to offer, so, with a lot of hard work and long days, they could quickly build a large customer base. 

Within six months, the franchisee duo were able to add a second coffee van to their operations: 

“I found it straightforward as I was technically already running two routes with one van so it made it really easy to have two. The only challenge was to train staff whilst running the routes at the same time.”

After another two months, they added a third van to their fleet. Despite working through a pandemic, John and Maria have been able to launch a successful three-van coffee business in the space of a year. They explained their new model:

“Two vans will be visiting workplaces and the third van will be dedicated to home deliveries. Social media is helping us grow our business. The customer app is also helping us keep customers and make new ones too. It’s one of the big things that differentiates us from the competition.

“I would never have thought we would be in this position eight months ago when we started, and if everything goes to plan we will be looking at a fourth van soon as well.”
