New Rhyl Travelodge aims to boost local economy

Travelodge will open a brand new hotel in Rhyl this month.

The hotel, which is due to be completed this month, is situated in Rhyl, in Denbighshire, North Wales, and offers visitors budget accommodation options on the seafront. The completion of the hotel marks the close of a multi-million pound project by the budget hotel franchise, Travelodge, hot on the heels of a rival Premier Inn hotel, which opened in the same town 11 months ago.

The hotel branch took a year to complete and comprises 73 bedrooms, as well as a ground floor reception, a bar and a restaurant area where visitors can enjoy a hearty breakfast, lunch or dinner.

The venture is just one element of the Rhyl Waterfront Regeneration Scheme, devised by Denbighshire County Council. This £25 million plan is already well underway, with the recent unveiling of a new Marston’s pub and restaurant. Improvements to the car park adjoining the Children’s Village are due to be completed in March and the brand new SC2 waterpark opens the following month, in April.

It is hoped that the addition of these new attractions will improve the local economy of Denbighshire, encouraging visitors from further afield to enjoy the town’s offerings.

The launch of the new hotel was announced by ION Property Developments, while Wynne Construction, a local Bodelwyddan-based developer, has worked closely with the hotel franchise ready for its official opening in the coming weeks.

Mark Wilson, site manager at Wynne Construction, said: “The team has really enjoyed working on this development, particularly with many living in or close to Rhyl, and we are proud to have contributed to the Rhyl Waterfront regeneration. We faced some setbacks with the inevitable high wind due to working on the coast, but we progressed well and finished on schedule and to budget.”

Councillor Hugh Evans of Denbighshire County Council, explained: "The completion of work at Rhyl Seafront Travelodge is another milestone in the regeneration of Rhyl. Along with SC2 and work on the Rhyl Masterplan, there is more investment ongoing in Rhyl, something which will create jobs and support the economy of Denbighshire as a whole."
