ChipsAway Telford and Wolverhampton has become the first of the vehicle repair company’s 200 Car Care Centres to achieve carbon neutral status.

ChipsAway is delighted by this development, as are the Telford and Wolverhampton franchisees, whose franchise business was afforded this status following extensive operational assessment by ECA Business Energy. The assessment took place over several months, and measured the business’s carbon footprint through gas, electric, petrol, diesel and repair parts and supplies.

Carbon footprint reduction is a priority for the following reasons: Reducing energy and travel costs, avoiding future carbon taxes, generating increased customer demand through greener working practices, and, of course, protecting the planet. Still, it would be impossible for a van-based franchise like ChipsAway to operate without using any energy. Therefore, to become carbon neutral, the footprint must be offset against renewable energy projects happening across the world, as it was for this franchise.

Darren, one of the Telford and Wolverhampton franchisees, shared his thoughts on becoming a carbon neutral business, expressing, “We know this is important to our customers, and it’s important to us too as we care passionately about protecting the environment. The fact that our expenditure is offset against a renewable project taking place what could be hundreds of thousands of miles away makes us feel like we are having an impact on a global level as well as locally, which is very important to us.”

ChipsAway’s Technical Director, Simon Kings, also said, “As a franchise network, we have a responsibility and a willingness to encourage all of our business owners to take steps to make their businesses greener. But in many cases, they go way beyond our support and take measures into their own hands. Such is the case for Darren and Matthew’s team, who’ve demonstrated as our first carbon neutral Car Care Centre that taking lots of small steps today make a huge difference in the long run.” Find out more about ChipsAway via their profile page, linked above.
