In honour of celebrations over Christmas and the New Year, Cafe2U recently posted a few of its favourite alcohol-infused coffee recipes to its blogs for customers to try out for themselves at home.

In the words of the coffee van franchise, “Obviously we're a little biased but we think coffee is one of the most versatile drinks around. It's the perfect first thing in the morning or during the day, great whether the weather's hot or cold and, most importantly at this time of year, it goes brilliantly with a host of other drinks and flavours.” The four coffee recipes shared by Cafe2U were as follows:

  1. An orange mocha - Combine a cup of espresso coffee and a quarter of a tin of sweetened condensed milk in a saucepan on low heat, then “slowly whisk in [a few spoonfuls of] cocoa powder, stirring continuously”. Add some orange peel and “leave to steep for five minutes”, then remove the pan from the heat, stir in around a quarter cup of chocolate vodka, “take out the orange peels and serve”, topped with whipped cream to taste.

  2. A gingerbread latte - Heat 180ml of full fat milk to scalding and stir in 40ml of gingerbread syrup. Then, pour 20ml of coffee liqueur into a mug and 30ml of strong espresso coffee over the top. Add the syrup and milk combo to the mug, and “garnish with whipped cream and a sprinkling of cinnamon to serve”.

  3. Peppermint mocha - Smash up a peppermint candy cane “by wrapping it in a tea towel and giving it a couple of whacks with a rolling pin”. Add 15ml creme de menthe and 15ml chocolate liqueur to a cup of espresso coffee, stir to combine, “then add [two tablespoons of] double cream”. Garnish “with the whipped cream and a handful of the crushed candy cane pieces”.

  4. Irish coffee - Lightly whip two tablespoons of double cream “until it begins to thicken, then set aside”. Pour 150ml of freshly brewed black coffee into a mug. Add 50ml of Irish whisky and a teaspoon of brown sugar, then “stir until the sugar dissolves”. Then, “Gently layer the cream on top, add a sprinkling of [freshly grated] nutmeg to serve and prepare to feel smug when everyone compliments you on how good it is!”
