From the 9th to the 15th of August, it’s Afternoon Tea Week in the UK, and the country’s number one mobile coffee franchise recently shared a comprehensive guide to the perfect afternoon tea.
In a recent blog post, Cafe2U took the time to explain that it was celebrating Afternoon Tea Week, honoring the long-standing tradition. Afternoon tea, according to the coffee van franchise, was “originally designed as a mini-meal between lunch and dinner” and “typically consisted of sandwiches, sweet pastries or cakes, scones with cream and jam and, of course, plenty of tea”.
For the perfect afternoon tea at home – and when is a better time for it than during Afternoon Tea Week? – Cafe2U recommends that its customers get their hands on a tiered cake stand, some chinaware and some folded napkins, as well as decorative tablecloths and bunting to add a classic British aesthetic to the occasion. They should then offer their guests a full range of teas, from English Breakfast to Earl Grey to Peppermint, and a few other brunch-style drinks like Champagne, and be sure to have milk, sugar and teaspoons on hand.
In terms of the food served, Cafe2U explains that the perfect British afternoon tea is all about the sandwiches and the sweet treats. On the savoury side of things, readers should consider fillings like salmon and cream cheese, cucumber and cream cheese, egg mayonnaise and cress, and coronation chicken. Plus, “For even more savoury variety, sausage rolls and quiches are also sure to please.” On the sweet side, there are plenty of options, including:
- Teacakes and scones
- Victoria sponge and coffee cake
For customers that do decide on a coffee cake, Cafe2U has plenty of flavourful and tasty coffee blends to incorporate. If you’d like to franchise with a coffee business that’s sharing helpful tips and insights with its customers, prioritising good customer service and great coffee at every turn, you can.
