By 2020 The Only Polystyrene Cup Dunkin Donuts Will Have Is The One On Its Logo

Dunkin Donuts is the latest chain to hop on the environmentally-friendly bandwagon.

By 2020, the only polystyrene cup Dunkin' Donuts will have, is the company’s logo – a steaming foam cup of coffee. The Massachusetts-based franchise chain will be removing ONE BILLION polystyrene containers from the world's waste by replacing them with double-walled paper containers.

According to CBS, this is a change not to be taken lightly as it represents considerable challenges for a company that is moving toward transforming their 8,000 US stores to more beverage-focussed. As early as this Spring, the Internationally renowned donut franchise will be serving all its beverages in double-walled paper. In the spirit of becoming more environmentally-friendly, Dunkin Donuts has already made other food and product changes by using coffee beans certified by the Rainforest Alliance, 100% recyclable napkins and bagel bags, cage-free eggs and crate-free pork.

Dunkin Donuts sustainability plans now extend to their daily operations and its entire supply chain. The fast-coffee chain is joining other top names in the global fast food industry such as McDonald’s and Starbuck in becoming leaders in the green fast food movement. There is more than 8 billion tonnes of plastic and foam that goes into our oceans each year having devastating effects on marine life and other animals, slowly destroying our very source of life.

Dunkin Donuts decided to ditch the use of this increasingly controversial and damaging material and join the green fast food movement. By 2025, McDonalds, who stopped using foam packaging nearly 30 years ago, announced it will use only recycled and other environmentally-friendly materials for its soda cups, Happy Meal boxes and other packaging.
