Sonesh Ganatra, the franchisee behind the new business, has made a bold career shift—leaving behind a successful finance job in the City to bring compassionate care to his local community. Despite his professional achievements, he felt something was missing.

From Finance to Care

“My work had no social purpose, and on top of that my work/life balance was terrible. I worked in a private equity company – seen as a very desirable job – but I was working from 7am to 6 or even 9pm. Some days I would see my daughter for only ten minutes before she went to bed,” says Sonesh, from Bromley. “At weekends I was too exhausted to do much with my family.”

His time as a business partner in a children’s nursery had already given him a taste of the rewards the care sector could offer. Realising he could combine his business expertise with his passion for care, he decided to launch a home care service.

There is huge and growing demand for home care, but I saw that it needed a big shake-up in order to consistently deliver the very best services and rewards, says Sonesh.

Choosing the Right Franchise

With no previous experience in home care, Sonesh knew that starting with a franchise would give him the support and structure needed to succeed in this highly regulated sector. After exploring his options, he chose Walfinch and brought in Kerry Lavallin, an experienced home care professional, as his registered manager.

“We want to be the go-to home care service in our area,” says Sonesh. “I met several franchises but could tell that Walfinch understood my ambitions and offered the support I needed to set up a business in this specialist and heavily regulated sector.”

Sonesh showed his commitment by investing in two Walfinch franchise territories—Bromley and Sevenoaks, as well as Croydon. His current focus is on Bromley, where he has lived for many years. “I know the area and the community, and have contacts with GPs and hospitals, and my wife is from Croydon, so we have the benefit of local knowledge.”

Setting New Standards in Home Care

Determined to provide exceptional service, Sonesh plans to offer bespoke care with a minimum visit time of 45 minutes. He is building a team of carefully selected carers who share his vision for quality care and is focusing on attracting private clients who value a personalised approach.

“There is some local competition, but we want to stand out among them for quality, so we are already preparing to do plenty of effective marketing. I know that the experience of the Walfinch franchise team will help. As an emerging home care brand, Walfinch still has the flexibility and capacity to move fast to help its franchisees in all kinds of ways, and understands the ambitions of young entrepreneurs.”

A Meaningful Career Change

After years in the fast-paced world of finance, Sonesh is embracing the opportunity to build something more fulfilling.

“It’s a big career change from finance but my aspirations go beyond the turbulent, stressed world of The City. Home care is a more rewarding and purposeful use of my skills.

My aim is to be the most outstanding home care service in our areas, and with the help of Walfinch, its people and support systems, I am confident that I can deliver on that.

Thinking About a Career in Home Care?

Sonesh’s journey shows that a rewarding career in home care is possible, even for those coming from a completely different background. If you’re looking for a business that combines financial success with real social impact, a Walfinch franchise could be the perfect opportunity.
