Inside RNR Restore & Recharge: Griff Shortt on Building the Future of Premium Wellness Franchising

1. What is the concept behind RNR, and what makes it different from other wellness franchises?

RNR - Restore & Recharge is a premium wellness studio concept that bridges the gap between the clinical environment, the luxury spa, and the traditional gym. Our core concept is built around making high-level recovery and proactive wellbeing accessible, repeatable, and easily integrated into modern everyday routines. We integrate a suite of advanced technologies - including whole-body cryotherapy, red light therapy and hyperbaric oxygen, into a single, modern studio format.

What truly differentiates RNR is our exclusive partnership with CTN, a globally leading Finnish high-tech innovator. While other wellness franchises may need to rely on fragmented, off-the-shelf consumer equipment, RNR is powered entirely by CTN’s medical-grade, science-backed technology suite. This gives our franchisees a highly defensible technological advantage. We position ourselves as credible, not clinical; premium, not elitist; and performance-aware, without being exclusively for professional athletes.

2. What are the main strengths of your franchise model?

The primary strength of the RNR model is its commercial efficiency and robust unit economics. We have engineered a high-margin, recurring revenue model that operates within a compact footprint of just 60 to 100 square metres. This significantly lowers rent and overhead costs while maximising revenue per square metre compared to traditional wellness or fitness concepts.

Our model is built around six diversified revenue streams: memberships, session packs, drop-ins, corporate wellness contracts, gym partnerships, and retail. This diversification builds resilience. Furthermore, our operational model is highly efficient; we project a breakeven point at just 35% utilisation and a payback period of 8 to 24 months. Franchisees also benefit from turnkey operations, meaning they receive a complete studio setup, interior design guidelines, and operational playbooks that minimise risk and accelerate the path to profitability.

3. How do you maintain quality and consistency across all locations?

Consistency is the bedrock of the RNR brand. We ensure quality across the network through our comprehensive Franchise Business Systems Manual, which covers every aspect of studio operations, from marketing and brand standards to greeting clients, assessing needs, administering therapies, and closing down a shift at the end of the day.

Quality control is maintained through a rigorous, multi-tiered KPI programme. We conduct scheduled bi-annual operational audits, unannounced spot checks and mystery client visits to evaluate the authentic day-to-day client experience. Furthermore, all core technology and equipment must be procured exclusively through our Approved Supplier Programme, ensuring that every client, whether in London or Manchester, experiences the exact same standard of CTN technology. We also mandate that all staff complete our Certified Wellness Advisor training programme before working unsupervised, ensuring a uniform standard of expertise and safety.

Longevity, bio-hacking, and performance optimisation have moved rapidly from niche interests to mainstream consumer demands. Today’s consumers, particularly our target demographic of modern professionals, active lifestyle enthusiasts, and high-performance executives, are highly educated about their health. They are seeking proactive, science-backed solutions for stress regulation, sustained energy, and physical resilience.

RNR directly addresses this “recovery gap.” Traditional gyms break the body down, while medical clinics are often too expensive, episodic, and clinical for regular use. RNR provides a solution that fits into a busy lifestyle, offering 3 to 60-minute sessions that allow clients to recover during a lunch break or combine multiple modalities in one visit. We meet modern consumers’ expectations for measurable results delivered in a premium, welcoming environment.

5. What training and support do franchisees receive?

We believe in building the business alongside our franchisees. Our support begins during the Discovery and Planning phases, where we provide consultative financial planning, site selection, and lease negotiation assistance. During the Build phase, we offer complete studio fit-out guidance and equipment installation supported directly by CTN engineers.

Our training programme is comprehensive. Franchisees and their initial staff undergo rigorous onboarding covering operational playbooks, POS and CRM systems, and technical equipment training. Post-launch, the support continues with pre-opening marketing campaigns, grand opening support, and ongoing business development. Franchisees have direct access to CTN’s global service network for equipment maintenance, and they receive continuous operational guidance from their designated Franchise Business Coach through monthly performance reviews.

6. How do you help franchisees stay profitable over time?

Profitability is sustained through our membership-driven, recurring revenue model, which fosters high client retention through habit formation and measurable wellbeing results. To help franchisees improve their bottom line over time, we provide a proprietary Franchisee Performance Dashboard that tracks real-time data against network-wide Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), such as membership utilisation and peak-time trading and demand.

By analysing this data, our Franchise Business Coaches work proactively with franchisees to identify areas for margin improvement. We also continuously develop new B2B revenue channels, providing franchisees with the frameworks and marketing collateral needed to secure new members, lucrative corporate wellness contracts and local gym partnerships, thereby building a strong local wellness community.

7. How do you adapt to local markets while protecting the brand?

While the core RNR experience - the CTN technology, the brand aesthetics, and the safety protocols, is strictly standardised to protect brand integrity, we recognise that local market dynamics vary. We allow for adaptability primarily in local marketing execution and B2B partnership development.

Franchisees are empowered to tailor their outreach to the specific demographics of their territory. For example, a studio in a dense corporate district might heavily weight its marketing toward executive stress-relief packages and corporate wellness accounts, while a studio near a major sporting hub might focus on athletic recovery and local gym partnerships. Furthermore, while core equipment is mandated, franchisees can submit requests to use local suppliers for non-core services (like facility maintenance or local PR) through our formal Supplier Approval Request process, ensuring local economic engagement without compromising quality.

8. What recent innovations have you introduced to the franchise?

RNR’s competitive edge is intrinsically linked to our partnership with CTN, a company with over 100 years of combined engineering expertise that continuously pioneers new recovery technologies. Recently, we have integrated the latest iterations of the e°CABIN and X°CRYO systems, which utilise advanced electrical cooling rather than traditional, cumbersome nitrogen systems. This innovation drastically reduces operational overheads, improves safety, and lowers the barrier to entry for franchisees.

We have also integrated the LedPro full-body red and near-infrared light therapy pods and the X-TONE electromagnetic muscle stimulation systems into our standard studio blueprint. On the software side, we have rolled out an integrated POS and studio management system that automates royalty reporting and provides franchisees with predictive analytics regarding membership retention and equipment utilisation.

9. What are your future expansion plans for the franchise?

Our expansion strategy is deliberate and focused on securing prime territories in high-demand urban markets before the recovery space becomes saturated. Following a full UK demographic analysis, our immediate roadmap targets Tier 1 locations, including London and the surrounding suburbs, as well as Oxfordshire, Berkshire, and Surrey, with a rollout into Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities thereafter.

We are not simply looking for rapid unit growth; we are focused on identifying the strongest operators, particularly existing gym owners, health entrepreneurs, and clinic operators, who can leverage the RNR model to dominate their local wellness market. As the network grows, we will continue to work closely with CTN to introduce new, science-backed modalities into the studios, ensuring that RNR remains the definitive global leader in accessible, premium recovery and technologically advanced wellness.
