Do Choice Hotels Franchise in the UK?

Choice Hotels is the world’s largest hotel franchise chain. It owns a string of different hotel brands that offer a pillow to rest on right across the globe. Choice Hotels owns 11 brands that collectively own over 6,800 hotels internationally. One of the biggest being Comfort Inn, a brand with huge consumer awareness in the US.

Choice Hotels offers room rates for all markets. It has a range of different hotel brands that are tailored to economy, mid-scale and upscale sectors in forty different countries across the world. In contrast to its small beginnings in 1939, when Choice Hotels consisted of only one hotel chain, Choice Hotels now owns over 500,000 rooms.

Choice Hotel’s flagship brand, Comfort Inn, offers budget accommodation to weary travellers from California to Beijing. It’s a company that prides itself on friendly staff and a reliable customer service. The brand has recently undergone a facelift, with hundreds of its hotels being refurbished to fit modern tastes. Most destinations now have a fitness centre or pool - one of these, in North Conway, New Hampshire, won a best of choice award from Choice Hotels for its consistently high standards.

The Story of Choice Hotels

The Choice Hotels brand dates back as far as 1939. That’s when the company was founded under the name of Quality Courts United Inc. Until the 1960s, the company was a nonprofit referral chain that connected a number of different American hotel brands. That’s when Stewart Bainum Sr. opened his first Quality Courts franchise. By the end of the decade, he’d become the CEO of Quality Courts and developed the brand into one of the world’s biggest collection of hotel chains.

Comfort Inn, which is now the Hotel Group’s leading chain, was founded in 1981. It was designed to compete in the mid-scale hotel market alongside Days Inn and Best Western. Sleep Inn - Comfort’s Inn’s budget sister-brand - was launched in the late 80s, meaning that Choice Hotels had now expanded into a range of different markets.

The company was launched on the NYSE in 1996 and by the mid-2000s it had cemented its presence in yet another market. Catering for a business audience, Cambria Hotels was launched in 2005; it has since grown into an international chain with hotels in 100 different destinations.

In the future, Choice Hotels has plans to grow its international footprint even further, especially in Spanish and Latin American markets.

You can rest assured that you will be supervised by the top brains in the hotel industry. All franchisors have to take part in Choice Hotels Total Lodging by Choice (TLC) Orientation programme, which is held ten times a year in Silver Spring, Maryland and involves 39 hours of industry tuition. On top of the TLC programme, General Managers of new hotels are also expected to participate in Hospitality Operations Success Training (HOST).
