Have you got what it takes to grow your own business as a franchise owner?

Without a doubt, joining a franchise is the safest and most reliable way to start your own business and fulfil that dream of being your own boss. Unlike going it alone, buying into a tried and tested model like Granite & TREND Transformations gives you a blueprint for success. By working with us, you can avoid most of the obstacles and pitfalls that cause the majority of new businesses to fail.

However, that is not to say that franchising is an easy option – it’s not. Even with the innovative products and service that we offer and all the expertise, training and support that you can tap into, how well you do is ultimately up to you. Just like any other career, succeeding as a franchisee is all about how much you are willing to put in.

So, when you are considering if a franchise opportunity is right for you, it is a good idea to also ask yourself: are you right for franchising?

As one of the UK’s biggest kitchen and bathroom home improvement franchises with more than 60 franchise outlets across the UK, we like to feel we have a pretty good idea of what makes a successful franchisee. We’re not talking necessarily about background and experience here, though that is a big part of it, we’re talking about the type of person that really makes the opportunity work for them.

1.     A Professional background

You do not need to have run your own company before, or even worked in the kitchen and bathroom industry – our training and support programme will teach you everything you need to know. However, you do need to have a strong professional background and understand how a successful business works. Someone who is already confident and experienced in leading and motivating their own team will have a fantastic head start.

2.     Comfortable taking feedback

Accepting feedback from your peers isn’t always easy but one of the greatest strengths of a franchise is that while you are working for yourself, you are never by yourself. You can count on our franchise support team, as well as your fellow franchisees, to help you fulfil your potential. We are also more than happy to receive feedback from you, welcoming any contributions you can make to the network.

3.     Willing to work with our model and processes

Our business model and processes here at Granite & TREND Transformations did not just appear overnight. We have spent decades perfecting how we do business and have tried and tested our system across dozens of territories. As our partner, we want you to show your own initiative but also to take full advantage of the system we have created for you.

4.     Goal-orientated

You need to be someone who always has their eyes on the prize and understands that their decisions affect their business. Knowing how to set and achieve carefully planned goals in the short-, mid- and long-term and knowing how to assess your success, allows you to continually improve and develop your business.

5.     Highly motivated

You also need to have the drive and ambition to make these plans happen and be committed to putting in all the time and hard work they need. You also need to be someone who genuinely cares about success and continuing to grow the business into the future. The sky’s the limit!

6.     Meet challenges head on

Even with the best planning in the world, and the best support team behind you, you can never fully prepare yourself for every problem that comes up. However, you can control how you deal with them. Being a person that focuses on solutions whatever happens is a huge advantage and one of the big reasons that Granite & TREND Transformations managed to do so well in adapting to the pandemic.

7.     Adverse to conflict

We don’t mean you shouldn’t be assertive and stand up for yourself. In fact, those are important traits in themselves! However, we do mean that you should be someone who is committed to resolving issues in the workplace rather than allowing conflict to arise.

8.     Good communication skills

Knowing how to communicate with your customers is essential, of course. Even if you are not planning to be on the front-line sales team yourself, you do need to understand the needs of your customers and how to relate to them. You will also need to be confident in understanding the needs of your team and how to communicate effectively with them.

9.     Resilient & Robust

Just like the above traits, this is all about being the right person. Someone who can weather all the ups and downs that come with business ownership and still keep a cool head. Someone who trusts in the future and their own plans and keeps going no matter what.

10.  Not being afraid to ask for help

If you have all of the above traits, you are probably also someone who prides themselves on standing on their own two feet and taking the lead. Wonderful qualities and very valuable in a franchisee but you should also be able to ask for extra support when you need it. A successful franchise is a two-way street, which is why we have one of the best franchise support teams in the industry. We’re here to help – because we believe that we are stronger together. After all, your success is our success!
