Successful TaxAssist franchisee celebrates 14 years serving his growing community of small businesses.

Entrepreneur and TaxAssist franchisee, Nigel Lomax has built a successful franchise business that supports 650 clients with the helping hands of an ever-growing team. Lomax, head of TaxAssist Accountant’s Shrewbury operations, has been supporting local small businesses and start-ups with financial services and advice since 2003. Fourteen years and a growing client base later, Lomax is looking to expand his team with a new apprentice he hopes to appoint in the next few weeks. Other expansion initiatives and changes in the business finance sector include MakingTaxDigital and the appropriation of a Cloud-based accounting that has already contributed to an increase of demand from small businesses paving the way for new regimes.

As Lomax celebrates 14 years in the business, Karl Sandall, group chief executive of The TaxAssist Direct Group, has joined the Norwich-based charity OPEN Youth Trust as a member of its board of trustees. When Sandall joined The TaxAssist Direct Group in 2000, he had shared a 26-year career with HSBC in Norwich and Cambridge with involvement with the local business community as member of several clubs including, Norwich North MP Chloe Smith’s Westminster Club and work with The Prince’s

Trust, Great Ormond Street Hospital and East Anglian Children’s Hospices. Sandall is also a Governor at Wymondham College.

TaxAssist Accountants was founded in 1995 with the ethos ‘to bring first class professional services to the small business owner’. Today, the chain provides financial services and advice to 65,000 small business and has over 200 franchises across the UK, 18 franchises in Ireland and is looking to expand to Australia and Canada. On his successful franchise, Lomax commented: “The small business community has been through some tough times, but it’s great to see how they rally round and support one another.

“We’d like to thank them for their support; word-of-mouth recommendations have really helped us see client numbers grow year-on-year.”
