Ken Dreary, CEO of home care franchise Right at Home, has been recognised by the British Franchise Association (BFA) as a Community Hero.

The Community Hero 2020 awards is an initiative by BFA and HSBC UK. It’s designed to celebrate members of the franchise industry who have shown resilience and bravery during the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the nomination:

“Ken was extremely quick to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic and, despite the uncertainties that lay ahead, he remained calm, assured and level-headed – and this attitude filtered through the network.”

As soon as lockdown struck, Ken got stuck in implementing radical changes at ground level with franchisees. He sourced and funded large quantities of PPE, held weekly calls with the entire network, disseminated key government guidance and provided regular financial advice. In addition, he also took time to host individual wellbeing calls with each franchise owner.

“By providing this level of support, franchisees have been able to focus their efforts on supporting their local communities through a period of most uncertainty,” the nomination adds.

Ken is one of 16 heroes to be named so far, with others in the Point Franchise network including the head office staff at Water Babies, Joan O’Sullivan from Swimtime, Adriana Cocut from Kare Plus, Sarah Preston from Subway, and Manjit Kaur from Heritage Healthcare.

The awards ceremony will take place on 30 November 2020.

Speaking on the initiative, Andy Brattesani, UK head of franchising for HSBC, said:

“It some ways, in my role as Head of Franchise for HSBC, I could say, I have had a good lockdown. We have not had to deal with furloughing and working from home with no face to face interactions we are putting ourselves at minimum physical risk. This is not the case in so many franchise businesses, at all levels, whether franchisor, franchisee or those who are employed by either. From this, the idea of Community Heroes was born. How can we recognise the resilience and bravery of so many who represent our industry? What a wonderful occasion to celebrate those who deserve it most.”
