To change one’s life around and shift a major career move from the public sector to running a successful business in the private, can be considered an unimaginable feat. Here is the story of a former head of performing arts in a state school who launched her Razzamataz Theatre School and changed her life around.

Debbie Ledwith, from Bershire, was a secondary school teacher of performing arts and Head of a Performing Arts school in Basingstoke when she began to itch for a career and lifestyle change. “Due to a change in my personal circumstances, I wanted to spend more time with my three young children, and needed more flexibility in my working life than teaching could give me,” says Debbi.

Debbi was then introduced to the part-time performing arts franchise, Razzamataz Theatre Schools by a friend and even if she had never considered running her own school, she decided to meet with the Head Office team. Shortly after the meeting, Debbie invested in her own franchise and launched a Razzamataz Theatre School in Newbury in September 2015. “After the first session I had 42 students,” says Debbi. “At the end of the spring term this year, I had 153 students. I’m really pleased with how quickly my school has grown and this has been one of my biggest successes. I like setting myself challenges to improve further.”

Debbi’s decision paid off for she now enjoys a work-life balance that allows her to spend more time with her family. “I love having my own business and being my own boss,” says Debbi. “I am working towards the position where I can do it full time, so that I can really devote my creative mind to growing my school. My three children attend Razzamataz and are really enjoying it. I am able to do my work when they are in bed, so I don’t lose any time with them.”

Razzamataz schools education franchise offer a diverse curriculum to create “triple threat performers’. Through singing, dancing and acting classes, children are given the opportunity to explore a range of genres from street dance, commercial singing to traditional West End musical theatre artistic styles. With almost 50 part-time Razzamataz schools up and running in the UK, the franchisees come from a wide range of backgrounds, managing successful businesses whilst enjoying balanced work-life lifestyles.

Since year 2000 Razzamataz Theatre School has been a solid franchise system and remains one of the top five classic entrepreneurs from Dragons’ Den. After appearing on the BBC in 2007, it has formed strong partnerships with First Choice, Disney, The Stage, Her Majesty’s Theatre and Eurocamp. Razzamataz Theatre School franchisees have been able to achieve a six-figure turnover through a full range of additional revenue streams.
