A Mother Nature Science franchisee has been sharing the secret to getting children interested in science.
For many kids, school is something that has to be done, rather than something that they look forward to every day. However, instilling a love of learning into children from an early age is the key to getting them excited about core subjects such as science, according to one Mother Nature Science franchisee.
Jennifer Chung, who runs a location of the education franchise in South London, spoke to national newspaper The Daily Mail in late 2018 about how she feels children can be taught to love learning. Rather than sitting them down and reciting facts at them, Chung said that she’s seen the best results at her after-school and summer sessions from getting her students actively involved.
“The key to engendering enthusiasm for science is letting children build experiments for themselves. To teach about gravity we might make simple parachutes so children can see scientific concepts in action. They also have projects to take home after the sessions and often parents tell me they enjoy finding out about science too. Too often schoolchildren think science is just about reading, so they find our sessions exciting.”
Prior to becoming a Mother Nature Science franchisee, Chung made her living as a management accountant. Her accountancy skills have come in handy during her franchising journey, but she said that her lack of science teaching experience hasn’t held her back from achieving fantastic success, thanks to the support of the franchisor.
“Our franchisees run after-school clubs, holiday sessions and parties. You don’t need science experience, but being keen to inspire children is essential,” explained Luke Morgan, Franchise Director at Mother Nature Science.
The franchise is on the hunt for new UK franchisees to help it expand its network and is keen to talk to anyone with a passion for education and science, regardless of their previous experience.
