Dunkin’ Donuts raises money for Special Olympics

Dunkin’ Donuts has enlisted the help of local police officers in Northern California to raise money for a fantastic cause.

Dunkin’ Donuts hosted its second annual Do Good with Dunkin’ event to raise money for Special Olympics. The charity helps people with physical or intellectual disabilities get into sports across the world, as well as offering training and competitions to more than five million disabled athletes every year.

The event saw police across Northern California ‘stakeout’ the roofs of Dunkin’ Donuts locations to raise awareness and donations for Special Olympics. People who donated any amount at any of the ‘stakeout’ locations were gifted a coupon for their generosity, which entitled them to a free medium hot or iced coffee the next time they visit their local Dunkin’ branch.

This is the second time that police officers across the northern half of the state have taken to the roofs of Dunkin’ Donuts stores in aid of a good cause. Last year, their efforts raised more than $10,000 (£8,100) for Special Olympics and it’s hoped that this year donations will beat the previous amount. To boost their chances, law enforcement in Southern California also took to the roof of selected locations of the doughnut franchise to help fundraising efforts.

More than 12 stores participated in the Do Good with Dunkin’ event and although the grand total is yet to be revealed, it’s hoped that another impressive sum will have been raised for Special Olympics. Those who received a free coupon for their generosity will be spoilt for options to spend it on, as Dunkin’ offers a huge range of caffeinated treats, including Frozen Coffee, Coolattas and Dunkaccinos.

Founded in 1950, Dunkin Donuts now has more than 11,000 locations across the globe and has grown into the world’s largest doughnut franchise.
