Drain Doctor cycles for cancer
Drain Doctor’s MD takes to his bike to raise money for a prostate cancer charity.
Drain Doctor has been doing its bit for charity this summer, as managing director Kevin Preston completed a challenging 46-mile cycle through London in aid of Prostate Cancer UK. He was joined by family as he battled pouring rain and blistering heat to complete the winding route.
Preston completed the route last year alongside franchisees of the drainage and plumbing franchise to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House Charities. This year, the company decided to dedicate the event to Prostate Cancer UK, which raises money and awareness of the devastating disease to try and find a cure. Unfortunately, one in every eight men will develop prostate cancer in their lifetime, so Drain Doctor’s charity cycle was certainly dedicated to a worthy cause.
Preston and his family managed to raise a fantastic £1,680 for Prostate Cancer UK and even managed to experience some blue sky towards the end of the ride. Preston laughed as he recalled his training journey with his daughter’s partner and his son.
“It did get a little competitive,” joked Preston. “We’d share practice run times and comment on how each other did. When we met our fundraising goal, we doubled it.”
But he acknowledged the serious good that the enjoyable cycle achieved.
“For all the fun we had, the fundraising is the most important part. We’re just glad we’re able to do our bit.”
Drain Doctor has fostered a culture of giving back to the community and its employees and franchisees regularly host fundraising activities for charities such as Macmillan, Cancer Research UK and Comic Relief. It encourages those within its business to always exceed expectation, as the dedicated Preston has during this year’s fundraising event.
