Magnum Ice Cream Franchise – Do They Offer Franchise Opportunities?
The market for ice cream has never been hotter (theoretically) and it’s estimated that the UK’s take-home ice cream market was worth a cool £1.4 billion in 2018. It’s grown an incredible 26 percent since 2013 and many of our high streets are now dotted with ice cream, gelato and dessert restaurants, showing we’ve got a healthy appetite for ice cream retailers. Although lots of new retailers have entered the market over the past few years, including those who offer lower calorie alternatives to traditional ice creams, including frozen yoghurt, indulgent ice cream brands still reign supreme. The brands that offer us a sumptuous snack to dive in to after a long, stressful day, or a pot of comfort to aid us through a traumatic breakup have a place in all of our hearts.
Magnum is one of these brands. It was launched in 1989 as the first hand-held ice cream (rather than in tub or cone form) that was aimed exclusively at adults. Rather than being a child’s treat, Magnum made the bold choice to market itself as a classy indulgence for those old enough to appreciate its silky ice cream and expertly crafted chocolate. It quickly became popular across Europe and now the brand sells more than one billion ice creams every single year. As part of global giant Unilever, the brand has even expanded into territories like North America and shows no signs of slowing down.

Magnum has launched lots of ambitious collections over the years including the Seven Deadly Sins collection in 2003, which featured flavours inspired by the biblical sins, the Five Kisses dessert-inspired collection and the Magnum Silver, which was designed to mark the brand’s 25th anniversary.
In recent years the brand has branched out into more adventurous flavours including nutty, fruity and caramel flavours, meaning there’s bound to be an option to suit every craving. Magnum has celebrated the ‘summer of indulgent pleasure’ for the past few years, as it launched pop up stores in London and New York, where fans could come along and create their very own personalised ice creams and the concept has attracted lots of visitors since it was launched in 2016.
Magnum is not currently seeking franchisees, as its products are mostly retailed in supermarkets and other food stores around the world. Apart from its brand-owned pop-up stores, the luxury ice cream brand does not have a store presence across the world and seems to be focussing its efforts on product development rather than recruiting franchisees to increase its impact on the world.
However, if the idea of making your livelihood in the sweet world of ice cream and getting into franchising sounds appealing, there are lots of other businesses that are actively seeking new franchisees. We’ve listed some of the most exciting options on the market right now.
Creams Café serves delicious gelato-style ice cream in a wide variety of flavours, as well as irresistible, American-style waffles and authentic French-style crępes with a huge range of toppings. Designed to conjure the nostalgic fun of a 1950s American diner with a modern, distinctive twist, Creams has managed to make itself unique in a market that’s full of competing brands and concepts.
Creams Café was set up in 2008 by founders Adam Marni and Balal Aqil, after they took several inspiring trips to Italy and fell in love with its creamy, rich, authentic gelato. To bring their tasty treats to as many customers across the UK as possible, the duo decided to franchise and now have more than 55 locations across the country.
Each franchisee will receive comprehensive training prior to their store’s opening and will have the chance to attend training sessions and seminars throughout their franchising journey. Each location’s staff will be put through an intensive 21-day training course, taking the stress away from the franchisee and leaving them confident that their managers, servers and kitchen staff will help to make the business a success. Creams’ head office team can offer assistance, support and guidance at any time, meaning each franchisee can access help whenever problems arise.
For a surprisingly affordable investment, franchisees will be able to open their own locations of Creams Café and serve delicious treats to the people of their town, with plenty of scope for multi-unit expansion and multiple revenue streams in the future.
Baskin Robbins is one of the world’s most well-known ice cream franchises in the world and has built its brand to provide ‘affordable luxury’ to people through its delicious sweet treats. Founded by Burt Baskin and Irv Robbins in 1945, the ice cream franchise has gone on to open more than 7,500 locations spanning 50 countries around the world. The franchise is famed for its 31 flavours slogan, showing how wide its range of ice creams is and allowing customers to try a different flavour every single day of the month, if they so choose. Since 1945, Baskin Robbins has introduced more than 1000 creative flavours to the people of the world and is constantly developing new, exciting choices for its customers to try.
Baskin Robbins is looking for franchisees that can take its brand to the next level. As an internationally recognised industry leader, its ideal franchisee should have experience finding corporate real estate in their field so that they can source the perfect site for their parlour. The franchise is also keen to find people who are have experience working in or owning multi-unit quick service restaurants (QSRs) and who have a long-term vision for how they can strategically develop their operations to grow the brand’s presence. It might sound a little daunting, but the right individuals for the brand will be able to reap the impressive rewards associated with being part of an internationally renowned franchise.
