2018 Franchise Shows and Exhibitions
If you’re considering opening your first franchise or adding to your franchise portfolio, the best way to get new ideas is to meet with other franchisees. So, here are some of the main franchise exhibitions taking place across the UK in the coming months:
The International Franchise Show in London
Held at the Excel Exhibition centre near London City Airport, east London, the International Franchise Show is the biggest franchise event in the country, with 160 exhibitors and 80 seminars. Here, you’ll have the chance to get one-to-one advice on starting your new franchise, as well as expert guidance from some of the world’s most successful franchisees and franchisors.
You'll also find seminars which will guide you through the franchise application process, teach you how to assess your prospective franchisor, and offer advice on how to run your franchise successfully in its early stages. With so many events scheduled, it’s a good idea to take notes so you can review these seminars and talks later.
A global event
As you might expect, this franchise exhibition has an emphasis on global opportunities and brands with franchises across multiple continents. For example, Abel Campos, McDonald's UK's Head of Franchising & Field Services, will discuss how he runs the brand's UK franchising strategy and recruits new franchisees. Donna King, an award-winning Qualified Franchise Professional of HSBC UK, will provide her essential tips for investing in a franchise, from the financing available to the information banks need from franchisee's business plans.
When: The International Franchise Show will take place on February 16th and 17th, 2018.
Where: The Excel Exhibition Centre is just a few minutes' drive from London City Airport and is a short walk from Prince Regent DLR station, which is easily accessible from central London and Canary Wharf
Tickets: Tickets are free if you book them in advance online. Otherwise, they are £15 at the door.
The National Franchise Exhibition in Birmingham
Held in partnership with the British Franchise Association (bfa), the National Franchise Exhibition will be held at the NEC Birmingham and will provide more than 40 free seminars. Every brand exhibiting at this show will be bfa-accredited, so you'll be exploring opportunities with brands that have legitimate credentials and proven track records.
The two-day programme will cover everything from advice on investing in a franchise to talks from financial and legal experts, workshops, advice from representatives of the British Franchise Association, and Q&A sessions. You'll also have the opportunity to meet with more than 100 franchise brands from a broad range of business sectors such as retail, food & drink, fitness and property.
At the Finance Clinic, you can attend a one-to-one consultation with an expert from Franchise Finance so you can get professional advice on your business plan and the different funding options that may be available to you. The event will also include motivational keynote speakers who will share their secrets to business growth, while the Real Franchise Stories session will allow you to ask successful franchisees why they chose their franchise brands and what they've learned.
When: The National Franchise Exhibition will be held on February 16th and 17th, 2018.
Where: The NEC, which is next to Birmingham International Airport and just a 10-minute rail journey from New Street Station in Birmingham city centre.

The Franchise Opportunities, Grand Central, Glasgow
Taking place at Glasgow's luxurious Principal Grand Central Hotel, this bfa-accredited exhibition will include more expert advice and insights on how to grow your franchise. Speak with franchisors from a wide variety of brands and industries so you can make an informed decision before you make any commitments and invest in franchise brands.
When: The Franchise Opportunities will be held on April 25th, 2018
Where: The Principal Grand Central Hotel is moments from Glasgow Central Station, which has hourly trains to London Euston. It's also easily accessible from Edinburgh via the M8 and the rest of the UK via the M74 and M6.
The benefits of attending franchise exhibitions
If you’re new to the franchising world and still wondering whether this is the right industry for you, attending a franchise exhibition can help you learn more about your desired sector and whether it's the right fit.
These events are typically informal, as much of the communication is conversational, yet you'll still be talking with some of the country's most successful franchisors, franchisees and industry experts. A good franchisor will clearly explain the responsibilities of running the franchise, the skills and qualifications required, and the type of franchise culture that you would be part of.
